The Ounces Countdown Weight Loss Approach edition by Patrick Hafner Health Fitness Dieting eBooks

Patrick Hafner, in The Ounces Countdown, has done a superb job of putting together a resource for anyone that wants to maintain their health. The people looking for a "quick fix" to their weight loss issues really need to read this book. Patrick Hafner states (and I couldn't summarize it better): "The Ounces Countdown weight lost approach focuses more on the big picture, bringing several components together to make it all work, to make you healthier and stronger, and to lose weight if you need to. The focus is to lose weight gradually, safely, and, in some ways, effortlessly: One ounce at a time."

The author divides the book into four main sections: 1) The concept, 2) Fuel, 3) Combustion, and 4) Putting it all together. The subsections are well laid out and titled so the book can easily be picked up and the reader is able to find a topic. Each topic is thorough and well-researched, but is short enough to make it a read that can be digested easily in a brief amount of time. This is a "wellness" book, NOT a diet book. However, all of your "diet" books on your bookshelf should be replaced by this one book and it will take you through the rest of your life as a healthy individual if you begin to implement the suggestions. Just think about how much room you'll have for new books!

In The Ounces Countdown, Patrick Hafner tells us from experience what hasn't worked in his life for over fifteen years, but the approaches in this book he's been living for over six years, so he isn't "telling" the reader what to do, he's "sharing" what strategies he's proven to be successful. He feels that the factors influencing weight loss are as follows: Exercise (25%), Intake (50%), and Attitude (25%). He goes on to tell us that there are eight essentials he sees as requirements to maintain your healthy lifestyle changes, those being: 1) commitment, 2) taking it seriously, 3) planning ahead, 4) throwing away guilt feelings, 5) not depriving oneself, 6) being self-centered (YES, YOU are important!), 7) focusing on your daily routine, and 8) choosing excellence.

This book is one that should be read from cover to cover, but then kept handy as a reference to maintain and learn the various strategies for healthy living. In fact, I just used mine to help me with writing out my grocery list. One more quote from this excellent author: "Start the Ounces Countdown today. Weight loss done right: easy, gradual, and lasting. Lose the ounces and the pounds will take care of themselves." Thanks, Patrick Hafner, for putting together a resource that will help readers live a healthier, and hopefully longer, life. It takes people like you who care about learning and then sharing it with others to make a big difference in this world.

The Ounces Countdown Weight Loss Approach edition by Patrick Hafner Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews

I was drawn to this book by the subtitle-Lose the Ounces and the Pounds Will Take Care of Themselves. This is what the author focused on the ounces and not the pounds. It is written from the author's personal experience (which is great when it comes to weight loss books). The weight loss concepts were very realistic and the book was very reader-friendly. He made healthy eating more practical. Many diet books focus on expensive foods with a lot of preparation.
The Fab 24 list was excellent. I have copied it and posted it on my refrigerator. It is a great reference point and I simply love it. If you don't get anything else out of the book, know that the Fab 24 list will get you to your destination.
The Ounces Countdown is a practical book for a safely paced weight loss with long term wellness. Now in my 40s, I'm done with crash diets and was looking for a healthy eating plan I can live with. I found my answer in Patrick Hafner's book. He has an impressive scientific knowledge of nutrition and the human body, yet his book is a comfortable, easy to follow read, like listening to a good friend share his story. While reading I kept thinking of the classic, "He did it, I can do it too." And yes, I'm doing it-- so far I've lost seven pounds. Buy this book, and enjoy your journey. --- UPDATE--- I have lost 30 pounds by following the advice in The Ounces Countdown book. From 202 (eek!) down to 172. Another 40 pounds and I'll be ready for the talk show circuit. k

2/19/2103 I am still losing with The Ounces Countdown. I am now 156.
On July 13, the Today Show ran a segment reporting on the latest survey by the International Food Information Council Foundation. It seems that 12% of Americans have no idea how many calories they should eat to maintain their weight or, better yet, lose a few pounds.
Patrick Hafner's book couldn't come at a better time. Hafner, a 30-year fitness advocate, spells out two means of coming up with the correct calorie total that one should consume to lose weight the right way--slowly but surely. He first outlines something called the Harris-Benedict formula, a mathematical calculation based on current weight, height, age, sex, and activity level. His suggestion, however, is to track what you are actually eating for a week and take an average. Once you have that average, subtract 500 calories a day and you should lose a modest one pound a week.
The remainder of the book deals with what you should spend your precious calories on. Some of his advice is surprising. For example, he lists butter as one of his top food recommendations. He also calls eggs a super food, yolks and all. Of course, he has some no-nos, too. But he is not the first to warn against trans fats and high fructose corn syrup.
The book also contains extensive information on how to eat a balanced diet, how much protein to include, and which carbs are best. No extremes here.
Some helpful exercise tips round out the common sense plan.
All in all, Hafner has done his research well. He claims if you do even half the things he suggests, you'll lose weight. He's got me convinced.
